29 Proverbs

The majority of the proverbs were written by Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived. The word proverb literally means “to be like”, or to be compared with. A proverb then, communictes truth through comparisons or figures of speech. The main purpose of this book is to teach wisdom to God’s people. Proverbs are short clever explanations, which are easy to remember. They contain truisms. These are things which are typically true however, not always. For example, "He who tills his land will have plenty of bread", it is typically true that one who works his land will have bread but it is not a guarantee to always be true. They deal with life, principles, good judgment, and perception. They often draw distinctions between a wise man and a foolish man with parable type examples.

As we apply the principles in the book of Proverbs to our everyday lives, we will begin to think, speak, and act in greater and more God-pleasing ways. Over time this will cause us to shine brighter for God while also bringing greater glory and honor to Him.

The Proverbs are a collection of wise sayings that, although they were written in ancient times, their principles are for all men in every age, and every walk of life. The ultimate message in the book of Proverbs is that fearing the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. There is no greater principle that was taught by both David and Solomon than acknowledging God's presence in everything in life, and taking heed to everything He says.

Technically a proverb is a profound saying, if pondered on for a length of time there is deep meaning associated with it. Proverbs was not uncommon in the ancient world, but the concept of fearing a single God who is the only God and the giver of life, was completely foreign in a world filled with polytheism - the belief in or worship of more than one god.

The purpose of the book is clearly to show the reader how to live life wisely or skillfully. As a matter of fact, the entire structure of the book is arranged to carry out this purpose.

This is what got me the most Proverbs 30 Two things I ask of you Lord, do not refuse me before I die. Keep falsehood and lies far from me and give me neither poverty nor riches but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say .. Who is the Lord? or I may become poor and steal and so dishonour the name of my God!.. like wow.. I love that..
